The Louisiana Revised Statutes, Title 17, Section 416.1 provides that teachers and school authorities may employ reasonable disciplinary and corrective measures to maintain order in school subject to regulation by the School Board.  Corporal punishment is defined as, but not limited to, punishing or correcting a student by striking the student a maximum of five (5) times on the posterior anatomy in an area below the waist above the thighs with an approved paddle.
