LA STUDENT OF THE YEAR FINALISTS NAMED
Eighteen regional finalists are in the running to become Louisiana’s next
Students of the Year.
Three Students of the Year – one each from the elementary, middle and secondary
levels – will be announced at a 6 p.m. awards ceremony April 20 at the Holiday
Inn Select in Baton Rouge.
Finalists include six students each from grades 5, 8 and 12. Every public school
and approved nonpublic school in Louisiana is invited to participate by naming
school students of the year, who progress to district, then regional
competitions. Oral reviews measuring communication and thinking skills follow
evaluation of written compositions and portfolios of accomplishments. Selection
of finalists is based on academic achievement, leadership, character and service
to school and community
